Custom sizes
Selecting the right dimensions and paper stock for your coloring book can transform how your audience interacts with it. We offer a wide range of standard US sizes alongside custom formats to suit any unique layout:
- Standard letter (8.5" x 11"): A standard layout choice designed to fit a traditional coloring book canvas. This larger, expansive size is ideal for intricate illustrations, retail bookstore displays, and adult coloring books that require maximum space for fine details.
- Digest format (5.5" x 8.5"): A compact booklet option. It serves as a portable, flexible choice perfect for travel-sized activity books, short-run educational tools, or personalized gifts for children on the go.
- Square booklets: A stylized, modern alternative format option. This layout offers a unique geometric style that’s perfect for contemporary illustrations, mandala collections, or eye-catching merchandise at conventions.
Premium paper stocks
The texture, finish, and weight of your paper also directly dictate how pencils, ink, and crayons interact with the page. You can customize your project with specialized paper weights ranging from 90 lb. text to 200 lb. cover in premium uncoated finishes:
- Interior pages (90 lb. uncoated text): We highly recommend heavy uncoated paper options like our 90 lb. text for your book's interior pages. The natural texture provides the perfect surface for colored pencils, crayons, and markers to absorb properly without smudging. Choosing this thick text weight minimizes the risk of marker bleed-through or ghosting onto your next design.
- What to avoid (glossy & silk-coated interiors): Always avoid glossy or silk-coated papers for the inside pages. On slick surfaces, ink and wax will slide across the surface rather than bind to it, completely ruining the coloring experience.
- Exterior covers (up to 200 lb. cover): Heavyweight cover stocks up to 200 lb. act as a protective shield for your book. Choosing a premium, heavy cover means your pages will remain durable for the end user, giving the volume a premium, bookstore-quality heft that provides a firm surface to color on.

Match your layout with the perfect binding style
Your choice of binding impacts both your project's formatting layout and how easily the pages can be colored:
- Saddle-stitched (stapled spine): A classic choice for traditional coloring book printing. Structurally identical to standard single-issue comic printing, this method is budget-friendly and enables rapid production turnarounds. Crucially, it allows the booklet to open easily and lay relatively flat, making it exceptionally comfortable for users to color all the way into the inner margins.
- Perfect bound (glued softcover): This option binds your pages into a premium softcover with a professional, square spine, which is great for thick, bookstore-quality volumes. It’s the perfect choice for full-length graphic novels or thick coloring books alike, offering a retail-ready look that stands out on shelves.
- Square booklets: A distinct booklet layout that provides a unique square format for your custom designs. This setup is a highly engaging, tactile choice for creators looking to expand their merchandise lines for online storefronts or art conventions.

Coloring book printing: FAQs
Get all the answers you need about formatting, paper weights, and production options from the expert team at Doxzoo.
For coloring books, we highly recommend heavy uncoated paper or matte text paper (such as 70 lb. or 80 lb. Text). Uncoated stocks allow colored pencils, crayons, and markers to absorb properly without smudging. Avoid glossy or silk-coated papers, as ink and wax will slip across the surface rather than bind to it.
Yes! Many artists who utilize our coloring book printing service rely on the exact same production setups for comic books. Our saddle-stitched booklets are structurally identical to standard single-issue comic printing, while our perfect bound softcover options are ideal for full-length graphic novels and thick coloring books alike.
We have no strict minimum order requirements. You can print a single copy to verify your layout, alignment, and paper choices before committing to a larger production run. We easily scale from 1 copy up to thousands, making us a flexible choice compared to traditional bulk-only comic book printer companies.
We offer rapid production and shipping tiers to destinations nationwide. While standard softcover books take slightly longer to cure and bind, our saddle-stitched booklets can be produced and shipped out rapidly. You will receive an exact delivery estimate and tracking details directly at the checkout screen.

For booklet style coloring books:
Upload your PDF as single pages (not spreads) and ensure your page count is a multiple of 4 (e.g. 8, 12, 16, 20 pages etc.)
By default, page 1 will be your front cover and the last page will be your back cover.
If you have colour to the edge, please include bleed and crop marks.
Please also refer to our Artwork Checklist.
For paperback book style coloring books:
Upload your PDF as single pages (not spreads) and ensure your page count meets the minimum allowable for paperback book printing.
We recommend including page 1 as your front cover and the last page as your back cover. You can then use our Cover Tool to move page 1/last page to the cover area.
If you have colour to the edge, please include bleed and crop marks.
Please also refer to our Artwork Checklist.
