The process of binding a book isn’t always straightforward. That’s why we at Print and Bind have compiled a list of tips to simplify the ordering and selection process.
- Choose the Right Binding for Your Book Opt for a hardcover if your book needs to be of high quality, or a softcover for a more budget-friendly option.
- Pay Attention to the Size of the Book Determine the size of your book and ensure it fits within standard print dimensions. The standard print size is 170 x 240 mm, but you can also choose from:
- 297 x 210 mm
- 148 x 210 mm
- 210 x 148 mm
- 210 x 210 mm
- 240 x 314 mm
- Your desired size
- Choose the Right Type of Paper Select thicker paper if your book has fewer pages or is a children’s book with many illustrations. Opt for thinner paper if your book mainly contains text. For a standard reading book, 100 grams paper is usually chosen. The gram weight of paper indicates how much one sheet per square meter weighs. 80 grams is equivalent to standard printer paper thickness. To learn more about paper types, check out our article on different paper types.
- Utilize a Design Ensure your book looks professional by having a design created externally.
- Have a Proof Printed Avoid printing errors by creating a proof before the book is printed. This way, any errors can be corrected promptly. At Print and Bind, you always receive one free proof book with a soft- or hardcover.
- Consider the Delivery Time Factor in the delivery time of the print shop to ensure you receive your book on time. We deliver a softcover book within three working days and a hardcover book within five working days. For more information regarding delivery times and additional details, check our FAQ.
- Ensure Your Book Meets All Specification Requirements Check that your book fulfills all the print shop’s requirements before submission. Read the requirements here.
- Be Aware of the Costs Consider the costs of the print shop to avoid any unexpected surprises. The price varies significantly based on the specifications you choose for the book.
