How to Print Your Screenplay with Doxzoo: A Quick Guide for Writers

If you’re ready to turn your screenplay into something you can hold and bask in its presence – Doxzoo is here to help you print your script like a pro. Whether you’re submitting to agents, competitions, or just want a copy to hold and cherish, here’s everything you need to know.

First Things First: Exporting from Your Screenwriting Software

Most screenplay programs export to PDF, which is perfect because that is exactly what we need at Doxzoo.

Make sure your script is formatted correctly: size 12 Courier font, single-sided A4 pages, and standard margins: 1 inch/25.4mm for the top and bottom, 1.5 inches/38.1mm for the left margin (to accommodate the binding edge), and 1 inch for the right margin.  Stick to the industry format to keep script readers happy (and things easier for you!).

    Single or Double Sided?

For screenplays, the industry standard is single-sided. This isn’t just for tradition- it makes reading and annotating easier during script breakdowns and production planning.

    Binding Options: Take Your Pick

Most screenwriters opt for comb binding – it’s a familiar plastic spine with pages that lay flat. But if you’re feeling a little fancy, you’ve got options:

Wire Binding – A more premium feel, still lays flat.

Velo Binding – A secure and professional finish, but harder to edit later.

All options are clean, durable, and suitable for submissions – it just depends on your style. Black binding is the industry standard, but white is also a great choice.

    Covers: Clear or Opaque?

Protect your masterpiece with clear acetate front covers so your script title page shines through, or go with a frosted/opaque option for a more private, subtle finish. You can also choose card covers.

    Colour-Coding Your Drafts

Need to keep track of revisions? In the industry, each draft update is typically assigned a different coloured paper (e.g., blue for first revision, pink for second, yellow for third). Doxzoo offers coloured paper options so you can easily keep versions separate and avoid mix-ups on set:

    Final Checks!!

Proofread everything. We have an online previewer for a reason!

The page count: Standard screenplays are around 90–120 pages. One page typically translates to one minute of screentime.

Make sure your name and contact information are on the title page (unless you’re submitting anonymously).

    Ready to Print?

Upload your PDF, pick your binding, select your printing and cover preferences, and you’re on your way to having a physical copy of your screenplay printed just how you imagined it – minus the paper cuts and your home printer jamming a million times.
