Is there anything more exciting than planning a wedding, knowing that you’ll soon be saying your vows and pledging your undying love to your other half in front of all your friends and family?
But before the big day, there’s a huge amount of work to be done and you’ll find that your to-do list may well be quite daunting once you’ve finished compiling it.
There are some decisions that will need to be made first and foremost, such as the wedding date and the venue, but once you’ve worked these out, you can then start to think about the finer details… like your wedding stationery.
Before you come up with any designs for your save-the-dates and invitations, you would perhaps be wise to sit down and decide on the overall theme or style for your wedding as a whole, as this will make it easier for you to decide on the aesthetics of your stationery.
Remember that your stationery will be the first insight into your special day that your guests will have, so it perhaps makes sense for it to tie in properly with what you have planned for the day itself… which is why defining your wedding style early on is such a good idea. In fact, this will help inform your choice of venue, as well.
Deciding on your wedding colours before you choose your stationery is a good move to make, as well, as you’ll find there are so many options for invitations and so on that it can be quite overwhelming at first. Too much choice can be paralysing, after all.
One important factor to bear in mind, however, is readability so make sure your colours work well together when in print. Generally speaking, avoid using lighter ink on light backgrounds and dark ink on dark backgrounds, as people will struggle to read the text. Also take care when choosing your fonts, as anything overly cursive could have a similar effect.
You’ll want to get your save-the-dates out at least six months before the wedding date, so that people can plan and make sure they’re able to come, so don’t worry too much if you do change your mind a little on colours and style when it comes to the invitation.
But one of the most important points to remember when it comes to your stationery, whether it’s the invitations, the place cards or the save-the-dates, is to proofread… and then proofread again.
You will kick yourself if you get everything back from the printers and start seeing spelling and grammar mistakes everywhere, so take the time to really check everything over properly – and get a second pair of eyes to do the same, just in case.
