This year it feels as though the world has been turned on its head. As a parent with school-age children, the past six months will no doubt have been especially challenging as you got to grips with homeschooling.
Even transitioning to working from home instead of the office has been hard work for some people, so it’s likely that many of us could do with a helping hand when it comes to our organisation.
One mum shared her organisation wall on Facebook group DIY on a Budget Official, with the Sun then sharing her efforts in the newspaper.
The organisation wall is designed to keep track of all the activities going on in her family, the mum explained, with a large blackboard set up as a weekly calendar, as well as space for an annual calendar on one side, a hook for house keys and a dedicated shopping list section.
She also added a small shelf and hooks below the board where her kids can hang their school bags.
It’s a great idea if you’re struggling to keep track of who is doing what during the week, as well as allowing you to share the likes of your shopping list with everyone else in your household easily.
Using blackboard paint on your wall might be one option to replicate the organisation wall shared by the newspaper, but if you’re in a rental property (or simply don’t have the desire to do the painting in your home) you can still create an organisation wall but you may have to take a slightly different approach.
Instead, you could create your own planner and then use a service that offers custom planner printing to get it in a format and scale that works for your home. You could even go one step further and get a personalised notebook for each member of your family to help them keep track too.
These kinds of organisational walls aren’t only useful for families, they could also be a good way to keep track of your work, meetings and any other important information while you’re working from home.
As an article for the Guardian recently pointed out, despite the government urging people to return to offices, just 34 per cent of British white-collar workers had returned to the office by the end of August.
While some have undoubtedly found working from home a challenge and are therefore eager to get back to the office, there are plenty of others who have enjoyed the freedom that working from home offers.
The newspaper revealed that, in the UK, more than 46 per cent of people in employment worked from home during lockdown earlier this year and, based on the other figures it cited, many are continuing to do so.
An organisation wall could be a great way to keep track of what’s going on and can be a nice way to help you balance work and home life. The best part is that you can design your organisation wall to suit you, so you can design it based around your working days, your family life, or a combination of the two.
