They are two terms for the exact same process! Coil bound printing (often called spiral bound printing) uses a continuous plastic spring-like coil threaded through a series of closely spaced holes. It is highly flexible and bounces back into shape if compressed.
No. Because spiral binding uses a continuous plastic coil wrapped through punched holes, there is no flat spine surface to print text on. If you require a printable spine, consider our perfect binding (paperback) service instead. Or, for an even stronger cover, consider our hardback wire binding product, which comes with rigid 2000 micron greyboard covers. Can I choose which edge of the paper is bound?
Yes, depending on your document's layout. For portrait orientation, we offer binding on the left long edge, right long edge, or top short edge. For landscape orientation, you can choose left short edge, right short edge, or top long edge. Please note that Tabloid documents can only be bound on the short edge.
If you are creating a planner, workbook, or diary, we recommend choosing our 60 lb text matte paper. Matte finishes absorb ink beautifully without smudging, making it the easiest surface to write on with pens, pencils, or highlighters.
