What is encapsulation?
Encapsulation is the process of covering a printed sheet in plastic, which provides extra protection and durability. It is often mistakenly referred to as lamination. Encapsulated sheets are printed on 70 lb text matt paper (or 55 lb text if colored paper) and covered with a clear plastic film.
Does encapsulation make documents waterproof?
Yes, encapsulation will waterproof your documents. This makes it a popular choice for menus, placemats, maps, notices, signs and documents for use outdoors.
Encapsulation vs. Lamination
Encapsulation involves covering both sides of the printed sheet with plastic and securing it with a plastic border. This makes it watertight.
In contrast, lamination is when a thin layer is applied to one side of the printed sheet only. Lamination is not watertight. Lamination is available for loose sheets - click to view.

Are encapsulated sheets completely waterproof?
As the document is fully sealed inside a plastic pouch, encapsulated sheets are waterproof and suitable for use where they may come into contact with moisture or spills.
Can I use encapsulated sheets outside?
Yes this product can be used outside.
Can I write on encapsulated sheets?
You can write on the surface using suitable dry-erase or wet-erase markers, depending on your intended use. Permanent markers can also be used if you don't need to remove the writing later.
What's the difference between Synthetic paper and encapsulated sheets?.
Waterproof paper is manufactured from synthetic materials that resist water, while encapsulated sheets use standard printed paper sealed inside a clear plastic pouch. Encapsulation provides a rigid, protective finish that's ideal for frequently handled documents.
Can I print on both sides?
Yes. Single-sided and double-sided printing options are available. For double-sided documents, the encapsulated sheet is sealed with the appropriate flip orientation for easy reading.
